Who We Are

Settle International is a registered non-governmental organization dedicated to defending the rights of indigenous people across West Africa, irrespective of their tribe, religion, race, or political orientation. We work to empower communities, advocate for justice, and build a more equitable future for all indigenous peoples.

What we do

ADVOCACY | COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT| CONSERVATION| PEACE BUILDING

At Settle International, we believe that our distinct role in fostering positive change for indigenous peoples in West Africa lies in documenting their challenges, the violations of their rights, and analyzing the trends affecting them. We empower indigenous communities through on-the-ground projects and by providing organizational support, while also working to influence human rights policies at international, regional, and national levels.

Our Formation

Settle International was officially founded on November 15, 2024, by a group of passionate individuals committed to advancing the rights of indigenous peoples and promoting social justice across West Africa. Our organization is driven by a shared vision and mission to create lasting, positive change in the lives of those who need it most.

Our Mission

Our mission is to guard, protect, defend, and promote the interests of indigenous peoples, ensuring their rights are recognized and upheld. We strive to create a future where indigenous communities are able to thrive and live with dignity.

Our Vision

We envision a West Africa where indigenous peoples live fair, just, and dignified lives, their rights respected, and their contributions to society valued. We aim to be a beacon of hope and a strong advocate for the marginalized communities of the region.

Our Goals

Our goal is to establish a West Africa where indigenous lives matter—where indigenous peoples have the right to give or withhold consent regarding the use of their God-given natural resources. We aim for the state and multinational institutions to recognize these rights and honor the sovereignty of indigenous communities.

Our Ambition

By 2030, we aim to see a subregion where indigenous peoples' rights are respected, their knowledge is valued in climate change and conservation efforts, and where indigenous peoples are the true stewards of their land and territories. We envision a future where they control the decisions that shape their lives and the land they call home.

Guiding Principles

Our work is inspired by the following frameworks and principles:
-UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)
-ILO Conventions 107 and 169
-The Universal Declaration on Human Rights
-The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women
These principles guide our advocacy, development efforts, and partnerships as we work to ensure the empowerment and protection of indigenous communities in West Africa.

Advocacy

We are driven by the desire to champion the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of the indigenous peoples of West Africa, helping them to live dignified lives and build stronger communities. Our advocacy work seeks to raise awareness and garner support from governments, multinational institutions, and civil society organizations to advance indigenous rights.

Our Activities

To achieve our mission, Settle International is actively involved in the following initiatives:
-FPIC (Free, Prior, and Informed Consent) Education Road Shows
-Support for Indigenous Women
-Empowering Indigenous Youth
-Conservation and Environmental Protection
-Providing Basic Social Amenities to Indigenous Communities
-Climate Change Action
-Peace Building Initiatives
Through these efforts, we work to create sustainable change and improve the quality of life for indigenous peoples across West Africa.
Together, we can make a profound difference, ensuring that indigenous communities receive the respect, rights, and opportunities they deserve.
